Hello there!
Today, I’d love to share a charming little café I visited after viewing the Ron Mueck exhibition at the National Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art in Seoul 😊
Hanok cafés offer a unique blend of traditional Korean architecture and modern café culture, creating a charming and serene atmosphere perfect for relaxation and cultural experience.

🏡 A Hanok Café with Timeless Charm
Café Bangatgan is a beautifully restored hanok (traditional Korean house) nestled in the tranquil alleys of Bukchon Hanok Village, just minutes from Anguk Station. While the café retains its traditional architectural beauty from the outside, the interior offers a minimalist, contemporary aesthetic—creating a harmonious blend of old and new.
Interestingly, the café exudes a subtle ambiance reminiscent of a quiet summer in Japan. One of its unique features is that they roast their own coffee beans on-site, ensuring a rich and fresh flavor in every cup.
🌿 Atmosphere & Seating
There is indoor seating available, as well as two tables outdoors: one bar-style table and one standard table. The space is surrounded by greenery, making it ideal for a relaxed conversation. You may even catch sparrows fluttering by to peck at fallen bread crumbs—it feels like a scene straight out of a fairy tale 🐦
The interior fully embraces traditional Korean aesthetics, making it a perfect spot for visitors—especially those seeking a cultural experience or foreign travelers exploring the area. You’ll also find artworks adorning the walls, adding a creative and intimate touch.
🍹 Menu Highlights
They offer a good range of handcrafted coffee drinks and sparkling ades. On our visit, we enjoyed sitting outdoors—the weather was crisp and cool, making for a truly refreshing experience.
During weekday afternoons, the café tends to be calm and quiet, ideal for a peaceful coffee break. However, be mindful that weekends can get quite busy with tourists exploring Bukchon, and seating may be limited due to the café’s small size.
👀 Final Thoughts
If you’re planning a stroll through Bukchon or the Anguk area, Café Bangatgan is a must-visit for those seeking a peaceful, culturally rich café experience.
That said, a small note: the owner can be a little… stoic 🥲
If you’re an introvert, you might find interactions a bit intimidating 🤔
